Brassed Off (1996)

1h 48min   |   English   |

Director: Mark Herman

Music: Various / Trevor Jones

This 1996 bittersweet comedy-drama, written and directed by Mark Herman, stars Pete Postlethwaite as Danny, the devoted leader of the Grimley Colliery Band, who is determined to show the Tories ‘we are not defeated’. Ewan McGregor, Stephen Tompkinson and Tara Fitzgerald are just some of the stand-outs in an impressive ensemble cast.

Big Screen Live was asked by the Royal Albert Hall in London to produce the Live in Concert version of Brassed Off, reconstructing and preparing the music for live performance by a brass band. The premiere in 2017, featuring the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra plus members of the cast, was sold out and a huge success, followed by a national tour and a further performance at the RAH in 2022.

Brassed Off Live is a Royal Albert Hall production by arrangement with Film Four Limited and Prominent Features Limited.
