War Requiem (1989)
1h 32min | English (Silent) | Director: Derek Jarman
Music: Benjamin Britten
Derek Jarman’s War Requiem is a rich visual interpretation of Benjamin Britten’s concert masterpiece. Released in 1989, it features Tilda Swinton, Nathaniel Parker, Sean Bean and, in his final appearance on film, Sir Laurence Olivier.

A silent film, set to Britten’s music and the poetry of Wilfred Owen, War Requiem is a powerful statement against war, using specially filmed sequences and archive footage from 20th century wars, that is arguably one of Jarman’s finest achievements.

Big Screen Live is proud to be bringing this film to the big screen once again, for the first time with the music played live.

War Requiem is rights-owned by Don Boyd Productions and licensed by Big Screen Live.
